School Safety & Security

At Pullman Public Schools, partnerships with our students, families, and community members are the cornerstone of our success. When it comes to ensuring safety and security, everyone plays a critical role in creating a secure environment where learning can thrive. As always, we encourage you to say something if you see or hear something concerning.

The information below outlines how our community can report safety concerns and provides an overview of the resources we have in place to support safety and security. We recognize that every situation is unique, so we encourage you to use your best judgment when deciding how and whom to contact with concerns.

School Safety Resources

  • We have dedicated School Resource Officers on-site daily at both our middle school and high school. These officers play a vital role in supporting our students, and we encourage students to reach out to them with any concerns. Additionally, our officer provides support to our elementary schools as needed.

  • Parents will receive email and text alerts via ParentSquare. Register with ParentSquare to complete the experience: Build Stronger Connections With Families.

  • To assist students with educational, career, personal/social and health issues, we have a variety of student services staff available, including health aides, school nurses, school counselors, psychologists, and social workers. Our role is to provide students with assistance as needed and connect them with relevant school and community resources.

For assistance with educational, career and personal/social issues and/or to learn more about the school-based counseling service, please contact your school's main office to speak with your student's assigned counselor.

    • Pullman Public Schools employs a service called Securly to filter student’s online activity. Securly provides strong protection against unwanted or unexpected content often found on the internet. All Chromebooks owned by the district are forced to pass through the Securly portal. When Chromebooks connect to the internet, whether at home or at school, Securly provides protection.
    • BARK is a utility program linked to the district Google for Education domain. At it's core, BARK is an algorithm that scans the domain for key words and tries to build insight into the text, email or chat. If that meaning is found to imply self-harm, cyber bullying or cross other policy boundaries, the content is flagged for review.

Once a week, a report is presented to district leadership. However, in the event of any hint of self-harm, key leadership are notified right     away.

This service is designed to provide early warning when students might be heading into trouble.

Reporting Concerns

  • Parents, guardians, community members. Contact the front office of the school you believe the threat is relevant to, or the district office if you are uncertain. Contact local law enforcement as needed. School and local law enforcement contact information is listed in the right-hand navigation.

Students. Please speak immediately with an adult, within the school building, whom you trust. If you are uncomfortable with that, please utilize our online tip reporting system, Vector Alert. This system allows you to quickly, easily, and anonymously report safety concerns to school officials 24/7/365. Help us create a safer learning environment.

  • Parents, guardians, community members and students. Call law enforcement immediately. They will contact the district and partner with us to address the situation.

You may also utilize our online tip reporting system, Vector Alert. This system allows you to quickly, easily, and anonymously report safety concerns to school officials 24/7/365.

If the situation requires an immediate response, it is best to call law enforcement first. People also may send emails to the district concerning the situation, but we cannot guarantee those messages will be seen in a timely manner.

Please note we do not recommend sending safety concerns via the district’s social media channels or the Contact Us buttons on social media due to the inconsistency of the platforms.
